Wrightia dubia (Ssims.) Apreng (Apocynaceae), source of indigo dye in Lam Dong province

Last modified on 9/12/2009 at 11:49:00 AM. Total 2004 views.

In Vietnam, many species can be used as dyes such as Strobilanthes cusia, Indigofera tinctoria, and other plants that are mostly distributed in northern Vietnam. In this paper, we studied species of Wrightia as potential sources of indigo dye. W. tinctoria and W. dubia are distributed in southern Vietnam and Tay Nguyen. Study has demonstrated that W. dubia can be used as dye. We have established methods to extract the 7.5% indigotin component of W. dubia. The results of the study will contribute to the development of native plants as dyes and colourants.
