In this report, we give some preliminary results of our research about the changes of vegetations in Hoang Lien National Park along elevation gradient which was carried out in 2004-2007. Research results show that types of vegetations in Hoang Lien National Park have structural characteristics, composition and diversity following 4 elevation belts: below 700m, 700m - 1600m, 1600m - 2600m and over 2600m. Elevations from 1000m to 1600m is subtropical typical belt. Virgin forests and primeval scrubs can be seen only at elevations above 1600m. Planted forest and secondary forest can be seen at below 2600m and they can not be found over 2600m.  Above 2900m, there are only bamboo shrubs and grassy shrubs, there are no woody shrubs and forest.
