This is the first study on the chemical composition of essential oil extracted from the roots of Kadsura coccinea (Lem.) A. C. Sm. in Vietnam. The essential oil of Kadsura coccinea was isolated by steam distillation with 0.13 % yield in fresh material and 0.58% yield in dry material. There are 36 out of 43 components identified by GC and GC/MS analysis and accounting for 97.23% of the essential oil. The major constituents of this essential oil is β- Caryophyllene (52.17%); the minor compounds are β- Himachalene (5.95%), α- Humulene (5.04%), 2- β- Pinene (4.38%), α- Copaene (3.47%), Delta- Cadinene (3.47%).
