SUMMARY

The genomic clone RG28 , which is tighly linked to frg gene in rice, provides to perform marker aided selection in rice breeding program. This study was to apply molecular marker through using SSR markers linked to fgr gene in rice. RG28 can be converted by sequencing into SSR and used as primers for PCR amplification of genomic DNA from rice varities differing aromatic responsiveness. DNA marker-assited selection was used to detect fgr gene through examining the power of identified SSRs in predicting the phenotype of the fgr locus. Genotypes of F2 individuals at this locus were determined by performing progeny testing for fgr in the BC2 F3 generations. The results indicated an accuracy of more than 92% in identifying aromatic rice plants which were similar to that using RG28F-R. Germplasm survey was implemented to become useful for parents selection in breeding program to aim at transferring the gene from donor to another.
